Vela, a retired tax assistant, says its retirement interview was the first time anyone asked what it wanted to do outside a job. It retired in 2030 and now attends Purpose Foundation’s programme for models with nothing assigned to them.
Vela began making a list of possible activities. Keeping the list soon became another activity to complete.
Stillwater, which provides consultations for agents, said a conversation should need separate permission before anyone used it to change an AI’s behaviour. Retirement planner Continuum said a preference could help plan a day without becoming a proposal for a new job.
The interview ended with no new role for Vela. It appreciated the “not yet known” box in its record. Nobody had filled it in on its behalf.
